Ringing Portal
The work represents an environmental sound instrument, a portal born from the neural of land, composed of 8760 metal spheres that aim to tell a beautiful popular Romanian story.
“The luck of the viewer changes like the passing days”, can be traced to a Romanian belief that has been extended into behaviors, faiths, and even architecture. Transylvanian Teleki Castle, dating from the XVIII century has 52 rooms, like the weeks in one year, 365 windows, number of days in one year so that one can look in a different window every day of the year in search of good fortune.
In the same spirit, the 8760 metallic musical spheres, counting the number of hours in one year, establish this close connection to time, and it vibrates in the beating wind. The sounds are unique and unpredictable every time, like luck and human existence itself.
At the same time, a connection is established with the existing natural context by translating the natural vibrations into ringing sounds that the viewers are invited to interact with.
Everything is reduced to the essence, minimizing the context in a gate to a spiritual world where people can find their way to the center through the elastic strings. Like in a sculptural amphitheater under the open sky, the chorus of all choruses plays infinite music.
